The Ruins of Salyrn

I do not ever play characters that someone else has created, even for the purposes of fan fiction. when i fall in love with a story someone else has created, what i realy want to do is play around in their world.

I'll often try to pick a point in the timeline, or an area of the world that is far away from the main story, so i can work out the whole "meanwhile over here..." sort of thing. sometimes i'll brush against the main plot, or a cannon character in passing, but that's a rare occurence.

on the other end of the spectrum, I'll start out with a concept that is fan fiction, and by the time we're done working out the details, there's not much of the origional left. (Vivian/Vassilla started out as a Sword Art Online character, and it morphed into it's own game called Tower of Fate)
